Mukesh Ambani the chairman of Reliance Industry Limited (RIL) revealed the details about revolutionary product Reliance Jio.
Jio is an ultra-affordable cellular network and definitely a nightmare for other cellular network providers who were charging loads of money for cellular data and calls. There is already a noticeable up to 8% fall in shares of Airtel and Idea after the announcement Jio tariff plans.
Jio is the first cellular network with a major focus on cellular data users and youths, which is the reason Mukesh Ambani brought his children into the spotlight. Ambani said, “Jio is the creation of the young, by the young and of the young”. He also mentioned that his children Isha and Akash Ambani are directors at Jio.
Jio will offer cross-network free calling via VoLTE, free SMS, and free-roaming all over India. So you need not to pay for all services separately. “Pay for only one service – either voice or data, not both,” as Ambani said.
Data tariff will be as low as Rs. 50/GB for 4G/LTE, the cost could go down to Rs. 25/GB depending on the nature of data expenses, it’s like the greater the usage, the lower the cost will be. Reliance Jio tariff plans are from Rs. 19/- for starters to Rs. 4999/- for heavy data users. You will get unlimited usage of 4G data from 2 AM to 5 AM with all other plans apart from the Rs. 149/- entry level monthly plan.
Jio services will be available from Monday, September 5th and initially, it will be absolutely free as part of the ‘Jio welcome offer’, so everyone can try Jio’s services without paying any charges. Reliance Jio will be launched commercially on December 31.
Key Points:
- Free voice calls via VoLTE
- Free SMS
- Zero roaming charges
- Rs.50/GB 4G data plans (could go down to Rs. 25/GB)
- Students will get 25% more data
- First four months after the launch will be completely free
- Less confusing and limited 10 tariff plans
- Tariff starts from Rs.19 for occasional users
- Regular plans are from Rs 149/- to Rs. 4999/- monthly
- Launching LYF brand handset starting at Rs 2999
Mr Ambani also added, “the 4G network of Reliance Jio would cover 90 percent of India’s 1.25 billion population by March 2017 and would eventually cover 18,000 cities and 200,000 villages”.
The company is setting the target of acquiring 100 million customers in the ‘quickest time possible’. It will be interesting to see the reaction of other cellular network providers and how Jio will deliver the promises. But there is one thing I am pretty much sure about, the Jio will stop the monopoly of companies like Airtel, Idea, and Vodafone who are killing with their tariff plans, and ultimately it is going to be profitable for users.
