Review of Coolpad Cool 3 Plus 1825-I01:
Coolpad Cool 3 Plus Design and Display:
Coolpad Cool 3 Plus comes with the two-colour variants, Ocean Blue and Cherry Black and I have been reviewing the Ocean Blue variant. The very first noticeable thing about Coolpad Cool 3 Plus is its glossy back made with polycarbonate with a dual-tone gradient colour design.
However, dual-tone gradient colour design doesn’t look very good as other premium phones with a similar gradient design. If you look closely, it will look like just a gradient paint applied on the back panel. It attracts a lot of fingerprint marks and smudges. The form factor and build of Cool 3 Plus feels solid to hold, the size of the device is compact which makes it easy to hold and operate, thumbs-up for that.
The rear side of the mobile phone has a 13.0-megapixel camera with flash and a fingerprint scanner, the right side of the Coolpad Cool 3 Plus has a power button right below the volume button.
Hybrid SIM slot is on the left side, it has 3.5mm audio port to connect earphones are on top and speaker grille and USB port are at the bottom of the phone.
The 5.71 inches HD+ display panel is on the front with minimal bezels, the top central portion of the display has the trending waterdrop notch for the selfie camera. The earpiece is right above the selfie camera near the top edge of the display panel.
Coolpad Cool 3 Plus comes with an HD+ screen which is very common in this price segment, I like the display of Cool 3 Plus. The brightness in any light conditions and colour reproduction are good. The HD media contents whether photos or video are appearing decent on the phone with good viewing angles.
Cool 3 Plus – Performance, Battery, and Software:
Coolpad Cool 3 Plus is powered by the Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 (12 nm) processor. It is a Quad-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor with PowerVR GE8320 GPU. I have been reviewing the variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. On the software part, Coolpad Cool 3 Plus runs custom UI on top of the Android 9 Pie. The device comes with few pre-installed apps including themes, you can use the ‘Themes’ application to change the wallpaper and to customize the phone’s UI even further.
The overall performance of the phone is smooth, I have been using this phone for the last three weeks and I have not found any bugs or any major lags so far. I have also reviewed the Infinix Smart 3 Plus which is in the same price segment, it was a decent phone considering the price tag but Coolpad Cool 3 Plus is way better than the Infinix Smart 3 Plus in terms of software performance; this might also because Cool 3 Plus comes with the 3GB RAM and very less bloatware. It’s good at doing regular day to day tasks, like making calls, browsing the internet and playing basic games. It has a fingerprint sensor and face unlock features, the fingerprint scanner is not very fast but mostly it’s working fine, the face unlock is working fine in when there are proper lights but taking too much time in low lights.
Coolpad 3 Plus comes with the Game Boost and Savepower features to boost the experience of the user while playing games but considering the fact that this is a pocket-friendly entry-level phone you shouldn’t expect much from the gaming part. Still, it’s good to play basic games like Angry Birds, Stupid Zoombies, Subway Surfer, Temple Run etc.
Coolpad Cool 3 Plus comes with 3,000 mAh battery which can last for a day with regular uses but you may have a hard time charging this phone because charging speed of this phone is slow. It will take almost four hours to charge the phone from zero to 100 per cent; this is the main cons of phones in this price segment.
Coolpad Cool 3 Plus Camera Review:
The device comes with the 13.0 MP rear and 8 MP front-facing selfie camera. The photos from the rear camera are just average in daylight and too grainy in low light conditions. The focus speed of both cameras is very slow, which is causing bad exposers in photos.
The photo quality from the front camera is good. It can take good selfies from the 8 MP front camera but you have to be slightly steady when clicking the pictures. Both rear and front camera has regular filters and camera features like beauty and bokeh modes.
Final Verdict – Should you Buy This Phone and What are the Alternatives:
As I said, this is low budget and entry-level android smartphone so expecting too much from a phone which cost around 6k would be unfair. Phones with such low price tags will be only good enough to do the regular stuff, it shouldn’t be compared with the phones with better specs and higher price tags.
If you are looking for a mobile phone around 5-6k INR then you can go with this one, just try to get the variant with 3GB RAM. There are other phones like Realme C2 and Redmi 7A in the same price segment that can be a better option for users looking for similar features.
