Globally acclaimed and the camera lens legend Leica has officially launched the new smartphone called Leitz Phone 3 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Leica has been gaining popularity in the smartphone industry because it collaborated with different mobile phone companies like Huawei and Xiaomi. But, very few know that Leica is also making mechanical watches and Leica-branded smartphones.
Leica has been making Leitz series phones since 20021. It has launched the Leica Leitz Phone 1 in 2021, the Leica Leitz Phone 2 in 2022 and now Leica Leitz Phone 3 in 2024. The Leica Leitz Phone 3 phone will be naturally camera-centric and like its predecessors, the Leitz Phone 3 will also be released only in Japan.
The design of the Leica Leitz Phone 3 is inspired by the Leica cameras, the Phone 3 has the main 47.2 MP 1-inch Type lens, just like in the Leitz Phone 2. This comes with a 19mm equivalent f/1.9 lens. On the front it has a 12.6 MP selfie camera with f/2.3 aperture and 78-degree field-of-view.
Leitz Phone 3 onboarded Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 instead of the latest SD Gen 3 this makes us think that this might have been supposed or planned to be launched last year since there was no phone in 2023 from Leica. However, this can also be the company’s strategic decision to cut the phone’s price. It also featured the 6.6-inch 240 Hz IGZO OLED display with 1260×2730 resolution and 2,000-nit peak brightness.
The Leitz Phone 3 comes with the combination of 12GB of RAM 512GB internal storage, and a 5,000 mAh battery. It runs Android 14 out of the box. Its connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, Mobile Pay and NFC connectivity and 3.5mm audio jack and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The Phone 3 has an in-display fingerprint sensor, it measures 77mm x 161mm x 9.3mm in size and weighs 209g.
The Leica Leitz Phone 3 will be available in Japan from April 19 2024, and it packs a ‘lens cap’ and matching case inside the box.
