India’s EdTech sector is moving beyond online classes and digital textbooks. Technology is increasingly being used not just to deliver lessons, but to personalise learning, support teachers, measure progress, develop practical skills and prepare learners for the demands of higher education and the workplace.
For years, much of India’s EdTech boom centred on putting classroom lessons, study material and coaching online. The focus is now expanding. Learning platforms are increasingly using data and AI to identify gaps, adapt practice, provide more targeted support and help learners build skills that go beyond examination scores.
This shift also reflects a broader change in how we think about digital education. Technology isn’t necessarily replacing teachers or traditional classrooms; instead, its more useful role may be in extending what students, educators and professionals can do. From blended learning in schools and personalised exam preparation to skills assessment and AI-powered interview practice, EdTech is becoming relevant at different stages of the learning journey.
Here are EdTech companies taking different approaches to this evolution, spanning the journey from classrooms and examinations to skills development and careers.
AASOKA is Bringing Blended Learning into Schools
AASOKA is taking a school-focused approach to EdTech, combining digital learning resources with curriculum, classroom and school-management tools rather than treating online learning as a separate activity.

Its digital library includes multimedia lessons, recorded lectures and a large question bank, while its learning platforms cover K-12 education as well as JEE and NEET preparation.
What stands out is the growing role of assessment. Extramarks uses an AI-based process that it describes in five stages: diagnose, learn, practise, test and evaluate. The idea is to identify gaps before directing students towards additional learning and practice, rather than giving every learner the same material.
The company has also developed AI tools for schools that can automate parts of assessment, generate different versions of questions, evaluate certain offline answer sheets and provide teachers with performance insights.
That makes Extramarks representative of a broader change in EdTech: the platform is no longer just a digital library. Increasingly, the aim is to create a feedback loop between what a student learns, how they perform and what they should work on next.
Zamit is Looking Beyond Examination Scores
Zamit takes a different approach by focusing on skills and future readiness alongside academic performance.

This is an important distinction in a system where academic marks still dominate much of a student’s educational journey. LEAD’s approach is less about creating another learning app for students and more about changing how schools themselves operate and teach.
The company was founded in 2012 by Sumeet Mehta and Smita Deorah and provides schools with curriculum, teaching resources, technology and teacher-development programmes. Its current website says its network extends across 400 cities, 9,000 schools, 65,000 teachers and more than 4.1 million students.
A significant part of the model is built around teachers. LEAD provides educators with lesson plans, classroom resources, progress trackers, training and a dedicated teacher app. This means the technology is intended to support the person standing in front of the classroom, rather than simply giving students another source of digital content.
That distinction matters. Technology can provide an enormous amount of educational material, but schools still have to decide how that material is taught, assessed and adapted for different learners. By focusing on the school ecosystem, LEAD is attempting to address that implementation challenge.
Infinity Learn is Combining Online Learning with Exam Preparation
Infinity Learn, backed by the Sri Chaitanya education ecosystem, is focused strongly on school education and competitive examinations, particularly JEE and NEET.

It also offers live doubt-clearing support so that students do not necessarily have to wait for their next scheduled class to resolve a problem.
This hybrid approach reflects the particular demands of competitive-exam preparation. Recorded lectures can provide flexibility, but students also need structured teaching, repeated practice, testing and access to someone who can explain where they went wrong.
